It was a gamble to acquire a pitcher with a six-plus ERA, but it’s paying off.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies, 6-1, on Sunday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. With the win, the Dodgers improved to 69-46 on the season and remain in first place in the National League West.
One of the key players in the win was starting pitcher Lance Lynn, 36. Lynn pitched five innings, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits and one walk. He struck out nine.
Lin’s fastball was clocked at 94.6 mph (152 km/h). He threw 94 pitches. He threw mostly four-seam fastballs (49) but also had a variety of pitches, including a slider (18), curve (13), cutter (8), sinker (4), and changeup (2).
With runners on first and second in the top of the fourth inning, Lynn could only watch as Brandon Rogers hit a grounder that was misplayed by third baseman Enrique Hernandez and allowed second baseman Ezequiel Toba to score. No further runs were scored.
The Dodgers broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth when Ahmed Rosario’s grounder to third base with runners on first and third didn’t turn into a double play, allowing Mookie Betts to score from third and give Lin a 2-1 lead. The offense added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach, 6-1.
With the win, Lin picked up his ninth win of the season. It was his third win since joining the Dodgers.
The Dodgers completed a three-way trade with the Chicago White Sox on March 29. The Dodgers acquired Lynn and right-handed reliever Joe Kelly, while sending outfielder Trayce Thompson, right-hander Nick Nastrini and right-hander Jordan Ledger to complete the deal.
The question was. Why would the Dodgers, looking to win the World Series, acquire Lin, who struggled this year with the White Sox, going 6-9 with a 6.47 ERA? Since joining the Dodgers, however, Lin has pitched exceptionally well, going 3-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three starts. He’s now lowered his season ERA to 5.88.
After the game against Colorado, Lin said, “I’m reborn now, and I’m really enjoying my time here. I’m doing everything I can to help the team win,” he said with a big smile.
Although he struggled this season with the White Sox, the veteran starter, who is 132-93 with a 3.70 ERA in 1843 career innings, was 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA in 2021 and 8-7 with a 3.99 ERA last year.메이저놀이터
The Dodgers have gained momentum in their push for the division title with the return of Julio Urias, Clayton Kershaw, and others. So far, it looks like the Dodgers’ trade gamble is paying off.
