An official from the KFA said on the 25th, “We have finally informed the organizers of the two teams that we cannot hold the matches. They did not fulfill the conditions we set forth.”
Promoters Untouchable Sports Group and Stadium X had organized two friendlies between the two teams on June 8 and 10 at Seoul World Cup Stadium and Goyang Sports Complex.
However, the second game (June 10) was first canceled on June 19 after the Korea Football Association objected to the scheduling of six K League matches on the same day.
On June 19, the KFA asked the two companies to respond to confirm that they were willing to go ahead with only the first game, and put a “condition” on them to prove that they could afford to organize a big event like a foreign team visiting Korea.
The federation gave them two options. It asked for a deposit worth billions of won, or 800 million won, about 10 percent of the expected revenue for the first leg, along with a special agreement on how to compensate for unforeseen events such as no-shows.
An association official said, “We asked them to submit the relevant documents by 11 a.m. on the 25th, but (the opponent) did not submit them completely. We gave them a little more time and extended the deadline to the afternoon, but in the end, they didn’t meet the conditions.” “We also had to consider the possibility of a ‘no-show’ situation or problems between the club and the organizer. There were too many variables, so we put a condition on it.”
