Lee Kang-in, Park Ji-sung’s successor never happened…Chelsea ace set to say goodbye to Man United

Mason Mount reportedly wants to join Manchester United.

“Chelsea’s Mount is leaning towards a move to Manchester United and talks between the two clubs are expected in due course,” David Onstead of The Athletic reported on Friday.메이저사이트

Mount is a midfielder that Chelsea has pampered. The midfielder joined Chelsea’s youth academy in 2005 and has steadily progressed through the ranks. Chelsea had high hopes for him. The Blues won four consecutive FA Youth Cups, and Mount was named Chelsea Academy Player of the Year in 2016-17. He then went out on loan to Vitesse and Derby County to gain experience.

He was criticized for his work ethic and lack of flair, but he proved it every time. When Frank Lampard, who had coached him at Derby County in 2019-20, returned to Chelsea, Mount began to develop into a key part of the team. In 37 Premier League (EPL) appearances, he scored seven goals and provided six assists.

Last season, he added 11 goals and 10 assists in the league and began to be recognized as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league. Despite a very poor season in 2022-23 due to Chelsea’s fall from grace and contract issues, Mount is still a favorite of Chelsea fans.

However, Mount has rejected several offers from Chelsea this season. Chelsea even offered him a long-term contract with a hefty salary, but that didn’t sway him. In the end, it appears that Mount has made up his mind to leave the club.

“Mount is preparing to say goodbye to Chelsea fans at Sunday’s match at Stamford Bridge,” the British Evening Standard reported on May 25. Mount is looking increasingly likely to leave his boyhood club this summer. He has one year left on his contract and United are ready to make him an offer.”

If Mount does choose to join United, the Red Devils are unlikely to make any additional midfield signings. Fred and Scott McTominay will have to wait to see where they end up, but it would take a hefty transfer fee to sign Mount. Currently, Chelsea’s asking price is reportedly £60 million.

United shouldn’t just be looking for a midfielder, but also a striker and a center back. Both strikers and center backs are expensive transfers, so any additional spending will be very difficult. Coincidentally, Mount is a player with a very similar style to Lee Kang-In. He prefers to play in the number 8 position, touches the ball a lot, and is good at playmaking. The age difference between the two players isn”t huge.
